Intervention Services That Are Compassionate & Respectful
Get the Help Your Loved One Needs
Traditional interventions are quite often messy and stressful events. They can easily become volatile and even traumatic to those involved. Few substance abusers or addicts appreciate being ambushed and forced into anything. Even when he or she agrees to go to treatment, it’s often with intense resentments. Many people enter treatment with the same mindset someone enters prison. This can reduce the effectiveness and the outcome of therapy.
When you have a loved one who is abusing drugs or alcohol, everyone in the family has been impacted in some way. That’s why the staff at Pathfinders takes a different approach. We understand that when there’s addiction in the family, everyone needs help. While the entire focus of a traditional intervention is on the addict, our focus is on the family system.

A Kinder, Gentler…More Effective Intervention
Why Our Interventions Are More Effective
The traditional intervention “Surprise Party” model involves secret meetings with family members to plan an approach to meeting with that addict and coercing that person into treatment immediately. Often, letters are read to the person to help list details about the consequences of their addiction. There are inherent problems with this type of intervention.
Mostly, this interventional style is usually not well received by the addict and that person’s reactions can range from overtly resistant to violent. Often, the addict diverts attention by maintaining righteous indignation around all the secrecy that went into planning the intervention. Sometimes, the addict is so successful at manipulating with this approach that the family ends up apologizing for doing the intervention.
The truth is that there are very few reasons to approach a drug addict or alcoholic with the secrecy and potential dishonesty of the traditional style of intervention. An exception might be a physician who is actively practicing while impaired. Other than that, there is a more respectful way of intervening on a loved one.
Why Do An Drug & Alcohol Intervention
Long term Successes for So Very Many
We use an educational approach to teach everyone in the family system about addiction, enabling, codependency, and more. This process encourages everyone to develop a plan to move toward recovery. No surprise parties, no secret meetings, no dishonesty. Just a straightforward process that helps move the entire family toward getting better.
Some of the reasons a family might hire an interventionist might be:
- Alcohol abuse
- Drug Abuse
- Gambling problems
- Other behavioral addictions
There are times when families become indecisive about whether or not to do an intervention because “it hasn’t gotten that bad yet”. Few addicts ever intervene on themselves but almost all of them wish they could get off the highway of self-destruction. A drug and alcohol intervention simply provides the exit ramp.
Call us today at 770.569.3801 to discuss the situation your family is dealing with. We would love to help your family get into recovery. An intervention will lead the way.
